Laos has a 10-year plan, 2010-2020, that it is implementing and that within this period tigers would reproduce to reach a critical mass and so that at the end of the project its perpetual existence would be assured.
During this meeting the participants discussed on the need to plan conscientiously, to ensure the success of the project.
The participants also touched on the need to raise awareness on preservation of tigers, to designate certain areas in the forest exclusively for tigers, to make amendments to the laws with regard to hunting tigers and sale of its body parts in the international market.
Mr. Khamphanh Nanthavong, Deputy Director of the Forestry Department, said that Laos had natural forest cover that was suitable for tigers to thrive and to prey on the animals that lived in such a habitat.
According to a survey carried out in 1990 there were still quite a few tigers that roamed the jungle in Laos. In the national forest reserve of Nam Aid- Phouleui, there were 25
