Deputy Director of the Water Resources and Environment Agency, Mr. Sisavath Vithasay, told the press at the National Consultation Workshop on Environment Performance Assessment Report that the sustainable use of natural resources in the Mekong region needs to be urgently addressed.

Held on April 27-28 at the International Cooperation and Training Centre (ICTC), the workshop was attended by Deputy Director of the Water Resources and Environment Agency, Mr. Sisavath Vithasay, Head of the Environment Department, Ms. Viengsavanh Duangsavanh, and relevant officials.

The participants exchanged viewpoints on ensuring environment sustainability in the Mekong countries.

In 2006, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) provided funds for the implementation of a work plan for environment sustainability in the Mekong region and the Biodiversity Conservation Corridors Initiative.

The ADB-funded work plan is designed to assess the environment sustainability implementation within development strategy frameworks, which is very much important for investment and development projects in the region.
