Vientiane GDP is increased by 12 per cent in the last five years

The gross domestic product or GDP of Vientiane in the past five years is valued at 12 trillion kip, increased by 12 per cent from the 2001-2005 period, said Vientiane Mayor, Mr. Sombath Yialiheu.

The mayor said that the GDP in Vientiane was equivalent to 28 per cent of the national GDP which was amounted to 43.4 trillion kip.

The GDP in agriculture and forestry sector is increased by 9.70 per cent and that of construction industry is up by 13.3 per cent, meanwhile the service grow up by 12 per cent as compared to the 2001-2005 period, said Mr. Sombath.

The annual per capita income of Vientiane over the past five year is estimated at USD1,759, the export is valued at over USD900 million and the import is worth over USD 3 billion so that 2.5 billion dollars is recorded as deficit in the past five years.

Over 864 billion kip of foreign loans and grants have gone to 811 projects in Vientiane in the past haft decade.
