Twenty leading hotels in Laos awarded

TWENTY leading hotels in Laos have received the ASEAN Green Hotel Award 2010 from the ASEAN.

The ASEAN Green Hotel Award 2010 was handed over by the President of the Lao National Tourism Authority, Mr. Somphong Mongkhonevilay to representatives of the twenty hotels.

The hand-over ceremony was held in Vientiane Capital on 9 April.Ten hotels among twenty have received the ASEAN Green Hotel Award for consecutively two-years (2008 and 2010).

The awards went to hotels including La Residence Phou Vao, Luang Prabang Grand and Resort, Maison Souvannaphoum in Luang Prabang province, Don Chan palace, Green Park Boutique Hotel, Lao Plaza, Vientiane-based Novotel, Settha Palace, Vientiane-based Tai Pan and Champassak Palace.

Other ten hotels include Villa Santi Hotel and Resort, 3 Nagas by Alila Hotel in Luang Prabang province, Daosavanh Hotel in Savannakhet province, Saise Hotel, Tadlo Lodge in Saravane province, Champa Residence Hotel, Grand Hotel, Khonephapheng Resort, Kingfisher Eco-lodge Resort and Pakse Hotel in Champassak province.

The green hotel award giving to the hotels in ASEAN has considered well environmental prevention, the using of green products, community participation, personnel resource development, waste counteracting, waste water treatment, save electricity, air quality and noise management. In 2009, more than 60 million oversea tourists visited the ASEAN number countries in which around 2 million come to Lao PDR.

The number has featured to be increased by 16 per cent from 2007 and could generate around US$263 million last year. - KPL
